This homemade garlic bread is one of those recipes that we use as a starter in many family meals. It is so tasty and easy to make that it will become one of your favorites!

There is something so comforting about a warm sliced ​​loaf of bread, and each slice is slathered in the most delicious garlic butter, Parmesan, and Italian seasonings. They are a delicious hot and crispy wonder! I have been adjusting the flavors of garlic bread for a long time. HOW TO MAKE GARLIC BREAD

Making this semi-homemade garlic bread is simple and only takes about 10 minutes to assemble.

  1. Mix the garlic butter ingredients (butter, seasonings, oil, garlic, lemon zest, and Parmesan).
  2. Cut the loaf of bread.
  3. Spread both sides of each slice of bread.
  4. Cover bread entirely with foil and bake.
  5. Uncover the top of the bread and bake for a few more minutes.

HOW TO MAKE GARLIC BUTTER

Making garlic butter is as simple as adding the ingredients and stirring. Make sure the butter softens to room temperature, and then add the spices, garlic, lemon zest, and cheese. Stir well, and voila!

You can use this garlic butter for many other recipes, such as sautéed vegetables.

TIPS FOR PREPARING GARLIC BREAD

  • Use a good loaf: A loaf that is crispy on the outside but fluffy on the inside and has a tight enough crumb that absorbs all of the fantastic garlic butter flavors. My favorites are a French toast or an Italian sesame seed bun, but you can use whichever you like best.
  • Use fresh garlic – I love to save time in the kitchen, but the best flavor comes from using freshly grated garlic for garlic bread. You can use commercially available garlic paste, and it won’t be wrong, but it will never be as good as fresh garlic. The amount of garlic can be adjusted to your liking.
  • Don’t Forget the Olive Oil – Although butter is used in this recipe, garlic bread needs butter and olive oil. The olive oil helps the butter mixture penetrate all the corners of the bread.

HOW TO FREEZE GARLIC BREAD

I tried freezing leftover ready-made garlic bread and wasn’t too happy with the results; I found the following worked best:

  1. Cut the bread into 2 cm thick slices.
  2. Spread the garlic butter mixture on each slice of bread and sprinkle with mozzarella cheese.
  3. Place the bread slices on a tray and put in the freezer for 1 hour, until frozen. Then remove the frozen bread slices and wrap individually with cling film or aluminum foil. Place the wrapped pieces in a freezer bag, and you can keep them frozen for up to 3 months.
  4. When ready to use, remove from wrapper, place on a baking sheet, and bake in a preheated oven at 350°F for about 20 minutes, or until crisp.

This way, you can have the advantage of frozen garlic bread made to your liking.

  • 1/2 cup salted butter, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • One tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 3-4 garlic cloves, grated or minced

How to Make Cheesy Garlic Bread

  1. Preheat the oven to 220ºC.
  2. While the range is heating, whisk together butter, Parmesan cheese, olive oil, garlic, lemon zest, and Italian seasonings in a small bowl. Add salt and pepper to taste. Reserve.
  3. Cut the loaf of bread into thick slices, about 2 cm wide, but do not cut all the way through, only up to 1 cm from the bottom.
  4. Generously spread both sides of the bread slices with the butter mixture.
  5. Add grated mozzarella cheese between each slice of bread.
  6. Wrap the loaf entirely in aluminum foil.
  7. Place the wrapped bread on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes.
  9. Remove foil from the top of the loaf.
  10. Bake for a further 5 minutes to allow the top of the bread to crisp up a bit.
  11. Remove the bread from the oven and finish cutting it.
  12. Serve hot.

VARIATIONS OF THIS RECIPE

Crunchy Garlic Bread Halves:

  • Instead of slicing the loaf, cut the bread horizontally with two long halves.
  • Spread the garlic butter mixture on both surfaces of the bread, dough side down, sprinkle with mozzarella cheese, and bake at 200ºC for 10-12 minutes.
  • Put the baking tray about 10 cm away from the grill and bake for 1-2 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly. Be careful not to burn.

Soft Garlic Bread Halves:

  • Cut the bread horizontally, as in the previous variant.
  • Spread the garlic butter mixture on each cut surface of the bread and sprinkle the top with mozzarella cheese.
  • Put the two halves together and wrap them in aluminum foil. Bake at 200ºC for 15 minutes.

Can leftover garlic bread be saved?

Yes, you can store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator and consume it within three days.

Can I freeze garlic butter?

You can freeze it in a freezer bag or airtight container for 1-2 months. To use it, thaw it overnight in the refrigerator.
